Kidsong 2015 – The 3 T’s – YouTube

People of Earth! Just wanted you to know that the two men in this video are talking about things you have no idea about unless you were at Kidsong 2015! But let’s just say that if you would like to get a taste of the conference then check out the Three T’s.

You should also then check out the latest videos on the Hillsong Kids Channel at YouTube because there are some seriously great memory verse songs as well!

I feel like getting elevated!

It was a couple of years ago that I was invited to speak at Elevate Conference in beautiful Vancouver, Canada.

It’s one of those events that I feel like we are all on the same page. I think Canada and Australia are very similar in the needs and challenges that the Church faces so it was such a privilege to speak there!

I am back again, this time with my wife Beci and it’s gonna be great!

So even if you are in the US, or somewhere close, get yourself there and we can hang out.

MEETUP: If you are reading this and coming to the event, comment below with your name and I will buy you a coffee at a meetup sometime during the conference! Do it!

The Ultimate Kidmin Conference Cheat Sheet

I spent a very quick few days in Columbus Ohio last week speaking at the Kidmin conference. Apart from feeling the jet lag a little more than in the past I found myself in a brand new conference experience put on by Group Publishing.

The amount of training that happens is astonishing in it’s variety and sheer volume requiring a telephone book sized yellow sheet just to recap all the topics and sessions! So with that in mind, here are some tips to help you survive the experience.

1: Find a friend and organise a buddy system. Perhaps you could create code names for each other like ‘Alpha Moon’, ‘Tomato Bob’ or ‘Larry Cucumber’ that you can yell out in an emergency. Here I have pictured two men doing just that. Wayne Stocks from Dad in the Middle Blog and Michael Chanley from CMConnect are now establishing contact with each other and assigning codes… I believe Michael went for ‘Louisville Kitty’.

2. Find people with similar hairlines to your own. This is myself and Steve Adams from Saddleback Kids very relieved to have found each other and realising that both our hairlines have seen better days. Steve has teenagers and so has progressed towards complete cue ball faster than me, but I have no doubt that I will catch him up at some point. You can just make out Michael Chanley photobombing at the back still nervously looking.

3. Get your selfie on with a guy in a mohawk. Jeff from JumpStart3 was an ever present presence in the resource area and a guy with big dreams and the guts the go after them. Which brings me to the guy on my left.

4. Bring along the legend that runs Hillsong Music. We just recently released Faith, Hope and Love a 9 week curriculum for both Preschool and Primary/Elementary and it’s awesome (I haven’t really mentioned it on the blog strangely). Tim Whincop and Josh Olson both were with me and made the Hillsong Kids stand happen.

There were many moments that happened at Kidmin conference meeting people like Wayne Stocks and Gina McClain both bloggers who I have been following for a long time! Meeting Christine Yount Jones the editor of Children’s Ministry Magazine and seeing her enthusiasm for helping leaders in kidmin. I did want to catch Dale Hudson who writes probably the most consistent kidmin blog there is and I did see Anthony Prince in passing at some point. But next time I do this I think a blogger meetup would be in order!

Thanks Kidmin, we had a great time!

1 reason to visit Columbus Ohio

As you travel the world, one destination towers over the rest in the search for international prominence.

Columbus.

It screams out from brochures, demanding your attention as you forget about Paris, London and New York. Drowning out your reservations with “We have a replica of Christopher Columbus’ historic ship the Santa Maria“.

So I am sure there are lots of reasons to visit Columbus Ohio, but to be fair, there is only one reason I am here.

It’s the KidMin Conference by Group Publishing and Children’s Ministry Magazine.

I had a walk around the city this morning, grabbed great bacon omelette (international travel rules dictate, in the US? eat bacon) breakfast from a tiny little place around the corner from the hotel suggested by this great blog Breakfast with Nick. And then had a stroll around the rather massive count of high-rise buildings in the downtown area.

Seriously, there is a lot of tall buildings for 800,000 people (Apparently lots of state government departments are here).

But let me get serious for a moment. I am quietly excited about this conference. I have never been a part of an event run by Group before so I will be learning all I can, about how they do what they do. There are friends here and new friends to be met. If you are at the conf. come by the Hillsong Kids stand and check out some new resources!

Kidshaper Conference Highlights

Kidshaper conference was a fantastic event in August.

We try and get as many of our team to attend as possible knowing that it will be a time where we get to be inspired, encouraged and perhaps most importantly hang out together without the pressure of task and ministry.

Andy Kirk is a champion with a very special place in my heart. His rebranding of the event makes me happy, his passion for ministry makes me happy, his innovation and the inner workings of his brain make me happy.

He is an absolute gift to the ACC in Australia. In short, when he asks me to jump, I ask how high?

1 Reason to make a video

As I have stated before on this blog, if I am light on posting it’s probably because of two things a project or a big season in Church life.

Well we have had both of them. Hillsong Conference  (hillsongconference.com), and a brand new resource Faith, Hope and Love. So posting has been very light, but I am feeling full of things that we have tried and would love to share. But here’s a quick recap on what’s been going on.

  • Kidsong conference was just spectacular you can see the first video up at our Hillsong Kids YouTube channel (also it’s this post below).
  • We had a baby! London Brave Jessica Wakerley. My first girl!

  • We are about to release our most ambitious curriculum project to date! It’s called Faith, Hope and Love and it’s coming in August!

Hillsong_Kids_BiG_FHL_DVD

  • So here is the reason to make a video for your ministry. Below you will see the latest video in an almost 10 year series of songs that we call the ‘Three T’s’. It has gone by different names like the Three P’s over the years but it is now an institution in the event known as Kidsong. Out kids watch this is every main session/rally and one of their missions is to memorise it over the conference and recite it back to myself or Funny Man Dan for big points! Anyway, if you have an event like this, a VBS or similar camp then do this! Your kids will love it!

Kidsong Big Messages

At Kidsong 2013 this year we have a number of ‘Big Message’ Videos that cover the topics we are investigating for the week.

They follow a similar style to our Big Curriculum resources, but on a smaller budget (as in $0, although I bought a bunch of whiteboard markers and some McDonalds at one point).

Firstly our Primary/Elementary ages:

The format is:

  • Intro segment (short and the same for every video)
  • ‘Draw my life’ style (main story/fun overview)
  • Wrap up (summarise the main point of the episode)

This is not meant to be a full exposition on scripture but fulfils three main goals:

  1. Gives the kids a shared media experience (unity)
  2. Sets up the speaker/preacher
  3. Hopefully gets a laugh (when you’re laughing you’re learning)

Secondly our Jr/preschool-ish ages:

The format is very simple and the language/style is perhaps modelled on the ‘tone’ of Playschool (preschool TV show in Australia).

Similar goals, but not as much humour. If you want to get a laugh with this age group you need slapstick!

Kidsong Conference Highlights

‘Creative title’ I know for my first foray back into blogging for a while.

But this is indeed about the wonderful event we just experienced at Hillsong Conference!

Kidsong 2013 was such a great, amazing time for everyone involved.

I have written a post on Hillsong Collected to highlight some of the things that happened and there is a part two coming this week.

CPC San Diego

For the second year in a row I made a quick visit to ole U.S.America to be a part of the CPC conference in San Diego.

We even took a stand along for our Hillsong Kids BiG Curriculum – which has now got a full year of School age material! (hillsongmusic.com)

It was awesome to hang out with Mike Vogel from Hillsong NYC and catch up with a bunch of people from the land of the free.

There is a lot to say about the conference, Michael Chanley is leading this in exciting and promising directions, and I can already see the impact here in Australia of their efforts to support the international efforts of children’s ministry!

So, check out incm.org to find out more, and for now you will have to watch the Orlando highlights video because the San Diego highlights does not seem to have made its way to the internets (Channers let’s get on it). 🙂

Here’s what happened.

So here’s what happened. – Christmas at our Church.

Here’s what didn’t happen – posting at this blog.

But I haven’t been entirely silent – I have written a couple of posts for Hillsong Collected which highlight the behind the scenes of our Kidsong Conference.

Kidsong Inside and Out Part 1

Kidsong Inside and Out Part 2

If you have a big event coming up for Kids soon, check it out it might just spark something off in your brain area!

There are some cool things happening online right now:

  • cmconnect.org has had a facelift and it looks fresh!
  • I kicked off a little community on Google+ for kidmin people, not sure what it will turn into but I just really like Google+
  • Have a look at our Churches strategy for Summer Camps, it’s awesome and very cohesive. Instead of multiple pages its just one with all the info!

Blessings!
