**Originally in 2010 I completed an epic quest to write an A-Z of Children’s ministry, Now because of the epic fail detailed on an earlier blog post I am reposting an updated 2018 version!
F… Funky, frantic, Futuristic… Fun.
Think about that word… FUN. If I can place another layer of meaning on this word I would like to propose this: If the habits you are striving to place into your life don’t have an element of fun in them, they just may not stick. Have fun with the positive habits that will get you there as much as possible.
Brené Brown, writes in her best-selling book The Gifts of Imperfection, “A critically important component of wholehearted living is play… Play is as essential to our health and functioning as rest (but) spending time doing purposeless activities is rare. In fact for many of us it sounds like an anxiety attack waiting to happen.”
Think this is just for kids? Every single advertisement I can think of for washing powder shows grown adults having fun, smiling, enjoying their washing experience. What?
The last time I had fun cleaning… wait. I’ve never had fun cleaning… now throwing things out… a different story. Like a ferret shedding a winter coat it’s getting rid of extra weight!
Listen carefully, it takes no more energy to make things fun for the kids you lead at Church. Having fun is up to you. It’s free, It’s healthy, and here’s the big thing. When the kids of your ministry think of your Church think about you… why not have them think of the word FUN!
Make ’em laugh, and if you can’t do that, find yourself a lead who can… that’s why our FUNNY MAN DAN exists!
