Three Posts of Awesomeness

Here are a few great posts I read recently:

Notes from Reggie Joiner

  • A lot of kids leave church experience rich but relationally poor
  • What is the purpose of kids applying what they learn? So they can see God and others can see God in them.
  • No one is more strategically positioned to experience all levels of spiritual growth in a child than a small group leader.
  • The reason volunteer leaders are not committed to children is because we’re not asking them to be committed to cipro cheap children. We give them outs every way possible.
  • How do we partner with parents? By casting vision to parents and getting parents so bought in that they cast the vision at home.

Speaking the truth in Love

4 Assumptions during the busy season

Here’s 4 assumptions I asked our teams to make during the next 4 months of ministry…

Enjoy.

Writing songs

Now in my previous post Theophilus…

I did use the metaphor about giving birth, which I understand is a foolish thing for a male to do under any circumstance. But just read this quote from Ryan Adam’s;

What I do and what all musicians do is easy. All we have to do is sit down for a couple hours a week and write a song or two. That simple task is all the world asks of me, so I do it. The other musicians who don’t are just lazy, because again, we aren’t being asked to tar rooftops or clean out dumpsters. We just have cipla generic cialis to write a couple songs!

So true!

Giving birth

So it’s midnight and I just finished a song (hopefully) for our upcoming kids album.

My wife Beci is in bed and here I am all inspired about kids worshipping God and keeping her awake.

I think it will be a powerful song. Talking about Jesus being near, and wanting to spend the rest of our lives in His house. “I’m so glad you’re here, I’m so glad you’re near…” well I don’t want to ruin it :)

But man is it a process. Getting a song written is like giving birth to a baby that sometimes refuses to come out. Or at least that cialis without prescription is our experience.

This year has proven to be just as tough as always to find the God songs. But I guess not much worthwhile is easy. The pain of creating can lead to great beauty.

I hope and pray that is true for this years album, that the kids at our church and ultimately around the world would encounter Jesus. Because if they do, they will never forget it. And they will never forget him.

Building better Behaviour

So this blog functions as a repository for most ideas I come across. I found this little thing on better behaviour. Not sure where it came from, but if I stole it from you, let me know and I will attribute it!

Building Better Behavior

Disruptive behavior may come from a child feeling ignored or misunderstood. Sometimes reflective listening may be all that’s needed.

Children need to feel accepted and understood, especially cialis wholesale prices when they’re upset. This frees them to relax their guard and look at other options and points of view. (Remember, acceptance doesn’t have to include
approval.)

Reflective listening can have three parts:

* inviting children to express themselves
* listening
* reflecting back what we hear

Inviting. Let the child know you understand he or she has a problem. Offer to listen if the child is open to that invitation. This means offering, but not pushing.

Listening. First listen—whether or not you agree, whether or not the child is “right,” whether or not the feelings are “ugly.” Say things like “Hmmm” and “I see” to show you’re listening. Ask questions to clarify and make sure you understand.

Reflecting back. Share with the child the feelings you have heard him or her express. It’s best to show empathy, not sympathy or pity. Empathy means letting the child know you can understand how he or she
feels. It’s important not to insist an attitude or feeling is wrong, since the child will then want to defend it.

When children feel understood, positive behavior slowly replaces negative behavior.

Let me just say…

It’s 10:51 PM Sunday night.

I feel like writing something down.

I feel a little quirky. It might just be the album I just bought (on the itunes store on my iPhone – didn’t even leave my bed) (the fact I just told you that makes me a little sad).

Medeski, Martin and Wood are one of my favourite bands. Hard to categorise… they are kinda Jazz, Groove, Funk etc.

They released a kids album at the beginning of the year… ‘Let’s go Everywhere‘.

I just found out about it!

It’s GREAT. Just a bunch of REALLY Flippin’ awesome musicians playing music their kids will love.

Very timely, as we write cialis softabs generic songs for this years kids album – don’t be surprised if this next album features some funk grooves.

Oh Great!!

So Young and So Gadgeted

From New York Times

EVERYONE knows that babies crawl before they walk, and that tricycles come before two-wheelers. But at what age should children get their first cellphone, laptop or virtual persona?

Dick Gruber Visits

There are VERY few veterans when it comes to ministry to children, especially in Australia… so it was a real honour to meet Dick Gruber last weekend. He was in town for a conference and popped in to one of our Sunday morning services.

Got to meet Dick and his son Tim, both incredibly tall indiviuals.

Although, don’t you hate it when you have guests and after saying farewell you realise you just spent the entire time talking about what YOU are doing and not taking the time to ask THEM questions… anyway I felt like that after they left… and I usually am and inquistive person!

Oh well!

Continuing the Music Love

Each year Christian Music Today put together the ‘Best of’ Lists.

Back in 05 we were no. 5 in the best of list for kids albums.

In 06, made it to No. 2 for Super Strong God.

Now for the Best of 07… drum roll… Tied for No. 1!

Uh Oh… no where to go but down now! Will 08 bring heartache, or will we conquer the world with a No. 1 not shared with anyone else?????

But seriously, it is an amazing honour to be a part of this church and music that reaches all over the globe, and is used in churches to connect kids with their creator!!!!!

Yancy’s New CD

Rock ‘n RollYancy has a new album out called Rock-N-Happy Heart.

From Yancynotnancy.com:

Yancy spent five years at Church on the Move in Tulsa, Oklahoma as a congregational worship leader, overseeing worship in a variety of areas and for a multitude of age groups. From elementary ministry to youth to young adults to the main worship staff, Yancy has the distinctive skill to lead all ages in worship, which led to her most recent album, a worship album for kids called Rock-N-Happy Heart that also features a companion DVD. If rock-n-roll is your style and worship is your heart. This music will bring a smile to your face.

One of the coolest things is, (at least to me) is that she has a version of I’m Reallly Happy which is a song Beci (my wife) and I wrote from Jesus is my Superhero!

And it is a FANTASTIC version, waaay better than our 2004 version!

So thanks Yancy! And everyone needs to not JUST buy the album but buy the Ministry Combo for your Children’s Ministry.
