Contrary to popular belief

So I think I got a little excited and may have not been clear in my previous posts re: the Apple Store opening.

I didn’t actually sleep out overnight, but did go to the opening (5pm) the following day, the queues were huge, so came back later that night with Mike ‘Voltage‘ Vogel.

Here is MIke who now has almost completed his transformation into an uber-nerd… just like me :)

Apple Store update

So I drove into the city before heading home tonight as people had started queuing for the opening of the Sydney Apple Store from 8:15am this morning. I got there about 9pm… there are about 20 people camping out for the opening of the new store!

I mean, there’s not even a new product coming out, just a store to sell stuff in. Which isn’t to say I am not heading in tomorrow at 5pm for the official opening… but camp out over night!!

Front of store… lot’s of glass, and apparently second largest in world after London.

Now the iPhone comes out here on July 11, so Apple really has got twice the mileage out of this launch. A bunch of pres for the opening, and then what’s sure to be bunch of press for the iPhone!

Start of the queue, first five have iPhones… (apparently there are 25,000 on the Optus Network already)

More Queue.

SO I reckoned there might be a few thousand here by tomorrow 5pm… and I will be one of them!

Cheeky Monkeys

A little light kids entertainment for ya! But pretty excellent dancers!

Have more babies!

Finally a reason for the decline of baptists :)

David Key, director of Baptist studies at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, attributes the declining numbers on Baptist parents having fewer children than in years past, and believes Baptist leaders haven’t been aggressive enough in attracting nonwhite members.

“It’s not just about parents not having enough children, but we also haven’t adjusted our youth programs to target multicultural youth,” he said. “It’s still a very white Southern experience as opposed to incorporating African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians.”

Colour Conference

TwitterThis week brings around our annual Colour Conference!

Thousands of women at the Acer Arena for a few days of maximum estrogen.

I love the concept of live blogging (real time commentary), but that kinda only works if you are attending the conference, so I thought I would live blog the experience for the kids we are putting on!

So follow me on twitter if you have it.

2007: The List Post

Top Lists2007 was a great year for blogging, more bloggers about CM than ever… community and friendships started around the world. Although I didn’t blog as much as I would have liked… I managed to put some reasonably intelligent thoughts together in a why that I hope helped.

Here are the top most commented posts of 2007:

We start with:

My take on Family worship — hmm. -  This was a reaction to the ideas people have about worship…

KidsFest 2007 – I put up the promo video for our Kidsfest Event (where we record our kids albums) from Youtube and generated some talk and interest.

Moving on to There’s a kink in my hose.- This post about creativity got some people talking and helped some I hope!!!

The Final Cover Artwork – ‘Tell the World was released and I did the traditional releasing of artwork post… you can order it from Australia right now… (U.S. release 22 Jan 08 I think, U.K. rest of world similar…)

The Purpose of Purpose – Kids need to enjoy and participate in the journey, not just wake up at the destination. This post talked about what we are looking to do with kids! People liked it.

Way back in May I wrote The State of the CM Blogosphere – Presidents, heads of state, royalty all like to present their state of the nation to their people, and so I like to be presumptuous occasionally and present the State of the Children’s Ministry Blog World as I see it!! This one introduced some new bloggers to the party!

An Explosion Needed – Just last week I fired up a little and yelled at everyone to start blogging, I think I will have to write a follow up as to WHY everyone should blog :)

A quick recap of 07 – have a read if you didn’t catch these the first time… even comment some more.

The bottom line is that I need to announce cool stuff more… and write more really thoughtful and incisive posts about interesting topics to get some conversation happening here…

Sounds like hard work… but I’m up for it!

C YA round in 08!

Slimed at Kidsfest 07!

So Kidsfest 07 is in the can!

Along with our latest album recording ‘Tell the World’ (Sneak preview of artwork on my tee-shirt in picture below).

Myself and Nathan McLean after the Dave and Nath Gross-out show. (The slime was especially imported from a swamp in Eastern Europe… or that’s what we told the kids).

Slimed at Kidsfest 07!

Much more to come…

I’m on Lock-up

It is 9:17pm on Sunday. We have just finished the final of our 8 services for the weekend.

I got up this morning for our 8am service, and 13 hours later we finished packing up from the 7pm service.

This weekend I have experienced more ‘church’ than some people would experience in two months.

But I LOVE IT!

I am part of the kingdom of God, building my little corner of it. Growing what God has given me the grace to lead and joining with a host of people around the world in participating in what Jesus said he would build… HIS CHURCH!

I really wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but right here.

So here I sit in my office having a breather before I head on out to lock up this awesome facility God has given us!

(Although I am glad I only lock up once every two months!) :)

You gotta be kidding!

Kids really do learn from their culture!
