It was a huge success and the kids loved running everything – get a group of your kids to try this… very rewarding (You will also be surprised with what the kids preach about!).

Suing God

And you thought Western Countries were litigious (is that a word?)

A Romanian prisoner sues God:

“The plaintiff said that when he had been baptized in childhood, he concluded a contract with God that had legal effect – God was supposed to protect him from evil.”

Here I am at LAST!!!

Well hello there!

As Dave mentioned I’m Nathan McLean the Primary Age Children’s Pastor of Hillsong Church – Hills Campus.

I absolutely love children and Children’s Ministry and could do it for the rest of my life, so that’s why Dave has me joining his blog. I’m not as technical as Dave but I am passionate about leadership and seeing the next generation rise up with a healthy love for God and His Church!

Yes I am getting married in Feb 06 to the most beautiful woman in the world! Jess is the Youth Administrator on the Hills campus for our Youth Ministry, Hillsong United!

Here’s a picture of her and I on the day I proposed to her:

It’s Game Time

Here is an excerpt from an email I just sent out to our key leaders.

I was a little fired up when I wrote it!!! :)

=============>

It’s game time.

The first half of the year is over. I believe that the next five months are going to be full of growth and momentum.

I have been praying recently just that leaders in our teams are really going to rise up and become leaders… I believe for the team that you lead that you will see a passion and a commitment like never before. We NEED more leaders desperately. Those people that see what you see and feel a burden to reach more kids.

Out goal is to increase the core of the team. Weekends are not enough to change a generation. In order to do what we are called to do you we need massive commitment – not just to Hillsong Church – but to the thousands of kids who have not heard about Jesus.

Pray – Pray – Fervently for people to join YOU on the journey. To come in midweek and sow their lives into a cause SO much bigger than themselves…

I’m fired up and ready to go.

Hillsong Conference + Kids Album

Wow… what a week of Hillsong Conference…

We had our kids album recording on Thursday and Friday mornings, what an awesome two days. It even got a mention in the Sydney Morning Herald.

I am really pleased with how this album is turning out! Later on this week I will sit down with the team and check out what we captured on the days.

Will post some updates on this in the coming days and weeks. Check out the article… I love seeing kids worshipping God, and love the thought that people are reading that in their paper… exciting!

Superhero Sunday!

As promised, here are some pictures of last weekends “Superhero Sunday”.
I gotta say that the gladiator costume is not the most comfortable in the world. But I suffered for Jesus — because it’s all about the kids!

Some of our Sunday morning 11:30am service team:

A few nutters from 7:30pm service:

Early Childhood team members:

3 Spidermen, 3 Batmen, a Storm Trooper and a Fairy Princess?

It was a brilliant success! We will be having some more of these soon.

Dressing Up

Well, haven’t I been slack.

Just a quick post… We are teaching this month on Heroes of the Bible. And all our kids and leaders are dressing up today in their favourite hero… I went as a Gladiator.

Russell Crowe…

Although was mistaken as a couple of different people… roman soldier (you know the ones that crucified Jesus), and the Centurion that came to Jesus with the sick servant (a lot better than the soldier).

Anyhoo… I will post up a picture ASAP.

God Bless.

Transitions in Leadership

A couple of weeks ago I spoke to our key leaders and talked about transitions we needed to make as a team to move forward this year. Here is an outline of the
five areas that I spoke about:

Five Transitions we need to make to get to where we need to go

1. From problems to opportunities - The future is bright, and to be as truly effective then we must see solutions not problems. Don’t ever bring up a ‘problem or issue’ unless you have one or two solutions to fix the problem.

2. From ‘week to week’ to ‘year to year’ – A big picture perspective keeps momentum and motivation high. Just look back at where we were a year ago, there has been huge growth and change. Don’t just lead from a ‘week to week’ perspective but step back… regularly, and make sure your team can see what you can see… change!

3. From connect group leader to mentor [Our small groups for kids - Ed.] – Our leaders aren’t just filling a spot but creating an environment for kids to grow, learn and get questions answered.

4. From pyramid to net - Leadership structure is not about putting people under you in order to build yourself up. As our influence grows it may appear that way, but as more people get involved in your world your responsibility grows. Flatten the pyramid… it’s about spreading your net keep the net tight and less things will drop.

5. From status quo to innovation - I am not interested in anything we have done in the past. Innovation is about doing things we have not done before – if it ain’t broke… break it! Incrementalism is the enemy of innovation… don’t just add a little bit of improvement upon little bit of improvement. If change is going to happen, make it big!

Live Album Recording

Wow!!!

Okay so last night (Sunday Night) the whole church gathered at the Sydney Entertainment Centre to record our latest live album!

It is awesome to have our church in one place at the same time worshipping and praising God. There are some beautiful new songs and a great atmosphere of faith.

We had a great time in the children’s program… a long night for our kids… but loads of fun and a huge amount of our leaders who just went above and beyond and created an awesome atmosphere for our kids.

Praise God for nights like these!!

Pixar Preaching

Just finished a year 4 and 5 kids camp on Friday. Had my preaching described as ‘Pixar Preaching’ – Engages the kids attention and cracks up the adults.

Really liked the description.

One of the greatest ways to break through a communication barrier is to use humour with the adults watching. If there are parents or teachers present when you are speaking to a group of kids, tell jokes that the parents get… appeal to their sense of humour and watch their guard drop and they begin to get on your side.
