Happy little Vegemites

VegemiteOh the humanity!

If you are an expat Aussie or even a Kiwi living in the good ole’ US of A then prepare for a shock. The US Gov has banned acai online Vegemite.

The bizarre crackdown was prompted because Vegemite contains folate, which in the US can be added only to breads and cereals.

So in a world gone mad with bureaucracy we all lose a little more freedom. No longer can you spread Vegemite on a piece of breakfast toast.

NOTE: For international readers, if you have no idea what Vegemite is, then I encourage you to try it out if you can… preferably spread as thick as possible (Eaten by the spoonful is best). :)

The Latest Barna.

acai 1000 mg href=”http://www.barna.org/FlexPage.aspx?Page=BarnaUpdateNarrowPreview&BarnaUpdateID=246″>Survey Describes the Ups and Downs of Tween Life

Great research from Geroge Barna on children ages 8 to 12, reveals some of their points of satisfaction and frustration.

“One of the more significant outcomes of the study,” he continued, “was the challenge to churches. While most kids in the 8-to-12 age range are involved in a church, relatively few of them consider church experiences to be valuable. That is confirmed by the fact that so few kids consider prayer to be a critical part of their life. Parents must take the lead in establishing the centrality of faith experiences and practices for their children. That begins with parents modeling the significance of faith in their lives. It also highlights the importance of families taking the lead in the spiritual development process, rather than expecting or waiting for a church to produce spiritual growth in adolescents.”

Barna also reinforced the importance of age 12 as a hinge point. “During the 11 to 13 age range, most kids undergo huge changes and challenges related to their self-image and their choices concerning morals, beliefs, relationships and life goals. It often becomes a difficult time in the relationship between parents and kids, but it is also one of the most critical times for parents to make sure they stay connected and accessible to their kids.”

A talking Donut goes home?

Okay, so some dude spammed my blog, I deleted the comment as usual, but followed the link as it seemed kinda interesting.

Renowned Christian entertainer and recording artist, Rob Evans AKA “The Donut Man” has come home! Just this past Easter he was received into the Catholic Church!

To see the story of Rob’s journey home to the Catholic Church see him tell his story on EWTN’s Journey Home on September 11th, 2006. Go to EWTN’s website: http://www.ewtn.com/journeyhome/index.asp
You can listen live on the 6order propecia online web or watch on your local cable TV station if they carry EWTN. programming.

So apparently there is a Catholic programme called ‘The Journey Home’ which details a whole bunch of people who have jumped ship to the Catholic church.

Donut Man

If you don’t know Rob Evans (The Donut Man), he has been using a talking Donut since the early 80′s to teach American kids about Jesus.

Look out for the new album ‘Bells, Smells and Crucifixes – Liturgy for little ones’ coming this Christmas :)

Reuters Photo Scandal

Nothing to do with CM… but got me fired up. You probably have heard about some of these photos on the news. Most of us adults trust the news services, believing them to be integrous. But I think our kids will grow up differently, untrusting (rightly so) of news media… which ain’t ALL bad. (Hey, I did find a CM tie in!)

Is Your kid a wimp?

Parents are going to ludicrous lengths to take the bumps out of life for their children. However, parental hyperconcern has the net effect of making kids more fragile; that may be why they’re breaking down in record numbers.

Rethinking the five-fold ministry

TheOOZE is a website dedicated to the emerging Church culture…

Have a look around the site, especially if you are wired into the emerging church discussion. There is not much on the site devoted to discussion of ministry to children in a post-modern context.

But I did just read a fascinating article of the type that you often find on the site about the five-fold ministry mentioned in Ephesians 4.

There is a bunch of 50 mg zoloft stuff to get you thinking in the article:

The idea that apostles, prophets, evangelists, and shepherd/teachers are ministry titles is a post-Biblical invention. It is also an anti-Biblical invention! It is sad yet prevalent today to hear men and women wielding these Biblical words as personal titles. “Apostle Tommy and Prophet Wilma,” “Bishop Jaquanza,” “Pastor Rotunda,” and “Evangelist Billy-Bob” all run against the grain of our Lord’s aversion for titles and position which was a mark of the Jewish mindset of His day.

In fact, nowhere in the New Testament do we find any ministry or function in the Body deployed as a title before the names of God’s servants. Christians who are “title-happy” need to reflect seriously on this!

The philosophy that we operate in, in our ministry is that my role as pastor is exactly that… a role, not a title.

Anyhoo have a read of the article here.

Interesting findings from a study in preschool programming…

Aussie iTV study tells preschool programmers to toss the narrative

A three-year research study from Perth, Australia’s Interactive Television Research Institute (ITRI) at Murdoch University may change the way producers and networks approach preschool programming the world over. Although the 40 mg strattera university is in the process of releasing the study’s results, which examined how interactivity can enhance a five-year-old’s experience with preschool programming, some initial findings are certain to raise questions about how the biz currently speaks to the youngest of viewers.

Pester Power

Junk food, cereal and snacks increasingly marketed to children through “pester power”

Before 40 mg aspirin the 1980s, with the exception of Disney and McDonald’s masterminds Walt Disney and Ray Kroc, companies felt little incentive to market their products to children because they felt children had no buying power. This perspective made sense at the time: Children have little or no income and limited ability to buy items on their own — unless they use “pester power” to get the materialistic goods they want.

Churches and Church Events Among 250 mg viagra Pedophile Targets

“The police had notified Viewcrest Assembly of God that pictures of their church and their Easter outreach were pictured on a known pedophile blog,” Noble says. “They had the street address of the church, the date of the event and pictures all posted online for other pedophiles to read, view and be aware of.”

VBS…

To you… the avid and devoted reader of this humble blog, VBS probably means Vacation Bible School. Which is a thing that happens during school holidays mainly in North America, for those of you like me living 250 cipro mg on other land masses around the world.

Vacation Bible schools get media-savvy, tech-savvy
Churches pay more to present elaborate programs in summer

Vacation Bible schools have been a summer fixture at many Christian churches for more than a century. Sometime between Memorial and Labor Day, churches set aside a few hours a day, usually for a week, for crafts, games and lessons about the Bible. Most are free.

Churches offer the programs to provide a fun way for children to connect with their Christian faith. Many churches see the programs as a key evangelical opportunity, one to which non-church-member children come for the fun, then bring their parents to church to stay. Read On.

Do any readers do VBS, if you are from a non-US church?
