Disciplining Kids

Read a great post on the topic of Discipline Via the Ross Road Kids blog:

Ross Road Kids partners with parents in investing in their kids!

This blog began as a networking of parents of Ross Road Kids but has quickly welcomed parents all over the world…

Secrets of Disciplining Your Kids – It’s All In The Before

Some quotes:

  • Discipline is 90% prevention and only 10% reaction.
  • Discipline isn’t what you do when children misbehave; it’s what you do so they won’t.
  • It is well-trained, well-taught children that handle choices responsibly and with respect for the rights and needs of others

Love it!

More Noble

Had to post this video of Perry Noble meeting Darlene Zschech for the first time when he was here to speak at our Men’s Conference. Very funny!!

Newspring Duffy

So a month ago we had our annual Men’s Conference here at Hillsong. It was probably our most significant one at a time when Men are really needed to assume leadership and take a stand for Christ in their families.

Robert Fergusson talked about the empty chair. His father died when he was eight and left an empty chair… but you don’t need to be dead to be vacant in areas of your life.

And I was really pumped to see Perry Noble speak as a guest speaker at the conference. I have been reading the dude’s blog for a couple of years and he just oozes passion. I also love reading one of his Children’s Pastors blog… shout out to Pudge! When a new post pop’s up from his blog I REALLY read it.

Anywoo… Perry bought a bunch of people along with him one of whom was Cherie Duffy the Children’s Pastor at Newspring!

It was fantastic meeting her and I dug up some stories on Pudge  (not really buddy) and generally connected with a passionate advocate of kids in the South of the US.

Now the reason I am blogging it now it because I realised after seeing the following video that I had not blogged about the conference or indeed the very Noble Perry, The video is at Tony Morgan’s blog

So check out the video below and subscribe to Tony’s blog, it’s top of my reading list!

McQuote McManus

Love reading Erwin Mcmanus.

Read Uprising: A Revolution of the Soul a while ago and wrote down this quote (Paperback pg. 63):

If anonymity was the price you would have to pay for significance, would it be too great a price?

Would it be?

Peer recognition is one of the most powerful forces in the human psyche. Learning to serve without it is one of the greatest skills this culture/generation schooled in the allure of instant fame needs!

Teach your kids that God is the only one they need recognition from!

Russian Supernatural

So one of the awesome things about having a network of Hillsong Churches around the world is that our Hillsong Kiev church records every Hillsong Kids album in Russian live in Kiev!!

So check out the link and see a short clip of their live recording of Supernatural.

Earlier this year I was invited to be a part of a fantastic new venture… K!

There are very few magazines of this calibre about ministry to kids in the world!!

So here is what you should do…

Go to www.thekmagazine.com and then click on the “Bulk Subscription” link to learn more about bulk subscriptions and rates… buy some for your whole team!!

In this months edition you can read what I wrote about Private Devotion and Public Passion – Training kids to worship God Monday through Saturday.

Quickly

Have been on a break the last week.

A whole week without a phone, a TV or people.

I highly recommend it.

Back into blogging and society in general from Monday this week.

Comment if ya want.

I just sent out an email to our key team… thought I would post it here:

(And if you want to post your answers in the comments).

====================>

Are you growing in your passion to reach children for Christ and grow His church?

We never become mature in our leadership or love for God. The thing about mature fruit is that it is just a few days away from becoming rotten fruit. We have to be leaders that are growing, not stagnant.

Really search your heart and address the issues that are holding you back. This break Beci and I are on right now is time for me to address one of the things that is holding me back. Devotion – I need to develop
the time I spend in devotion to Jesus Christ.

I have something different for our key team meeting this Wednesday.

We will not be meeting at church, instead I would love you to take the time and read this article.

http://www.christianitytoday.com/childrensministry/articles/becominganauthenticleader.html

Then simply reply to this email and write down some thoughts for me about one of the areas Jim talks about.

eg. 2. Leaders are problem solvers. Let me know a challenge or something God has spoken to you about problem solving, or even a problem you have solved in your ministry.

Looking forward to your answers!

God Bless

Ten Moves Ahead

I just read a short article in which Mark Batterson was talking about a book by Garry Kasparov titled “How Life Imitates Chess”.

Kasparov won his first world-championship chess match in 1985 and he dominated the chess qworld for several decades. In the book he shares some of the lessons he learned. Here is one of them: “A Grandmaster makes the best moves because they are based on what he wants the board to look like ten or twenty moves in the future.”

That is exactly why I serve children.

In their hands is the future – ten or twenty, or fifty years in the future.
