What Children Want

Children are:
In need of appreciation
Spend time with them talking about their interests

In need of participation
Find things for them to do, and let them contribute to the lesson.

In need of insight.

Talk to them about the running of the kids’ ministry and explain why we do things

Uninterested in my subject at first.
‘Buy’ their attention

Unable to concentrate for long

Plan a varied lesson with frequent changes of focus of interest.

Limited in vocabulary of words and experience.

Watch my words and use metaphors sparingly.

Unable to think about the abstract.

Always talk in terms of actual things and people and use illustrations.

Capable of using their minds.

Provoke their minds with questions and exercises.

“Why Mr. Wakerley, we haven’t seen you in a while”

Thou Hast not seen me in a while indeed.

Do I need to explain my absense?

I suppose Yes.

There has been a lot of work going in at http://hillsongkids.com over the past month or so. I stopped abruptly Podcasting and Blogging on the 6th of Dec. Which worked out well as a summer break…

There are three things that are happening at Hillsong Kids.

1. The Podcast is moving there… if you visit http://childrensministrypodcast.com it takes you too the future page for the show.

2. My old blog has moved to davidwakerley.com (here), and will focus on a little more personal stuff, and a new ministry blog will be created at hillsongkids.com with a bunch of contributors.

3. The Newsletter will be merging with a Hillsong Network list available to anyone who would like ministry leadership stuff.

So in short a lot of cool things have merged and are happening.

Do you like the redesign? let me know!

Change your feeds! If you use Bloglines or similar reader. Delete the old and bring in the new.
