yeah, I read this today as well. I’m not sure how it is in Australia, but in America, it seems even within the church, there is such polarity on things like this. The whole Jesus Camp “contraversy” where some are embracing it and some are distancing them selves from it. That devil is sly as a fox…. if he can get the christians warring against each other and their eyes off the real aim of christianity (The Great Commission) he’s happy…. kinda Screwtape letters type of thing…

On another note, Dave, 2 podcasts in a week… wow!!!

    Later,
    Paul

    Paul,

    Nice comment!

    You got it right…

It looks like we will have another eipsode up at the end of this week as well… it’s a miracle!

Wow, is right. That is a bold move that I don’t agree with. I am about as far from Pentecostal as they come, but that doesnt’ mean I do not validate their faith or their practices, I just don’t agree or endorse them.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Oh, I don’t know….the Texas seminary’s move is dissapointing, yes, but unusual? Not really. Many churches, Christian colleges, and denominations have defined certain distinctives for their organizations. While all agree on the basic fundamentals of the Christian faith, there is a wide diversity of scholarship on secondary and peripheral issues. Whether it is “KJV-only”, the timing of the rapture (pre, mid, or post trib), or even the question of whether the whole spectrum of spiritual gifts is in full force today, churches and church-related ministries have always sought to clarify these issues to promote harmony within their groups. Being a confirmed pre-tribber, I would probably not be comfortable in a seminary that had a post-tribulation clause in their doctrinal statement. We would disagree, but ultimately, it would not make me or the seminary worthy of shock and disdain.
Looking at it from a different perspective, if a Pentecostal seminary professor said that he found evidence that tongues may not be for today, chances are, he would be dismissed just as quickly (at which point, some ultra-conservative Baptist website would probably say “wow!”)
I love the body of Christ and its unity in the essentials. I have also come to appreciate its diversity in expression. Like Paul said, Let’s move forward with the Great Commission!
